Major Exhibit Announced for U.S.

Earth From Above

PKPR is managing publicity for Earth From Above, a major outdoor exhibition of large-scale aerial photographs by renowned French photographer and environmentalist Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

The free, eight-week exhibition will makes its NYC debut at the World Financial Center Plaza and along the Battery Park City Esplanade from May 1, 2009 to June 28, 2009. The exhibit, produced by Picture Earth, will then travel to San Francisco and Los Angeles in 2010. Pi

To announce the exhibition, PKPR secured stories in outlets such as The New York Times , Los Angeles Times, and The Huffington Post, as well as a major exclusive feature in The Boston Globe’s wildly popular Big Picture Blog (which was recently dubbed “Brilliant Highbrow” on New York Magazine’s Approval Matrix). The Big Picture feature has generated coverage across the web—from Treehugger and Discover Magazine to Kotke.org and Towleroad. World’s Largest Short Film Fest Draw Crowds, Stars

Tropfest NY, the world’s largest short film festival, took place last night on the Battery Park City Esplanade in New York City, Despite the rainy weather and competition from the opening night of the New York Film Festival (and the first presidential debate!), crowds and VIP judges like Julianne Moore, Billy Crudup, and Radha Mitchell turned out to experience eight original short films created by up-and-coming filmmakers.

For its first year operating independently of the Tribeca Film Festival, Tropfest tapped PKPR to build buzz and crowds for the free outdoor event. Preview coverage included People, Time Out New York, OK!, New York Post Page Six, New York Post Agenda, New York Daily News, New York Times Urban Eye, New York Observer, Village Voice, am New York, Downtown Express, Metro, Daily Candy, Flavorpill, and an exclusive preview of one of the night’s short films in New York Magazine’s Vulture Blog.

As the New York Times and USA Today’s Pop Candy blog noted, the winning film, No Man is an Island, was created entirely on a cell-phone for just $57. Not bad, since the director takes home a $20,000 prize. Check out this amazing short below.

Dayton Literary Peace Prize Salutes Authors

The 2008 Dayton Literary Peace Prize will be presented in Dayton, Ohio this Sunday, September 28th.

Winners include Junot Diaz for The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao and Edwidge Danticat for Brother, I’m Dying. IFP Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Independent Film Week

The nation’s oldest and largest organization of independent filmmakers, the Independent Feature Project (IFP) hosted Independent Film Week in September.

The week of film screenings, panel discussions, and networking reflected the organization’s mission of discovering, showcasing, and supporting new independent film projects and talent. 

Zack & Miri Make a Porno director, Kevin Smith, kicked things off with a Q&A on “Making Your First Feature” and answered questions about his next project, “Red State.”

PKPR secured preview, news and feature coverage in key film trade publications like Variety, Hollywood Reporter and indieWIRE, as well as mainstream press like am New York, the Village Voice and the New York Sun.

The Budget Fashionista Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

For the fifth anniversary of The Budget Fashionista blog, PKPR implemented a comprehensive PR campaign aimed at raising the profile of its founder, Kathryn Finney. 

Leveraging Finney’s advice for “recession-proofing your wardrobe,” PKPR secured appearances for Finney on programs such as E! News Daily, Good Morning America, and WCBS-TV, as well as interviews with national outlets like MSNBC’s Jean Chatzky, People Style Watch and Smart Money

To cap it off, PKPR handled publicity for The Budget Fashionista’s Fashion Week party at Housing Works Thrift Store, which attracted more than 50 media outlets—from Reuters and Forbes to CBS Mobile and WNBC to Style.com and The Social Diva
